EARTHLAB

2022 - 2024

EarthLab is a climate action park owned by the San Diego Unified School District and located in the southeastern San Diego neighborhoods of Encanto, designed for experiential open-air environmental education. EarthLab is a collaboration between UC San Diego and Groundwork San Diego, a non-profit organization empowered by the City of San Diego to restore the Chollas Creek watershed and improve the environment, economy and overall quality of life for the residents of Encanto, a disadvantaged community characterized by high unemployment, limited educational opportunities and food insecurity. EarthLab is home of the UCSD–EarthLab Community Station, a field hub with programmatic activities based on an experiential education model that integrates both indigenous and scientific knowledge to comprehend and tackle emerging challenges derived from climate change.
