RAJASTHAN

2011

Rajasthan is the largest Indian state by area, located in India's desertic northwestern region, once home to the Indus Valley Civilization. Centuries of dynasties, kingdoms and empires have shaped and enriched these lands with staggering buildings: forts, palaces, temples and havelis display incredibly detailed carved surfaces, especially the latter ones. These long-standing townhouses are of great historical and architectural significance, as their characteristics and decorative aspects were influenced by various local cultures and traditions, many of which evolved in response to the climate, lifestyle and availability of materials. Wandering around Rajasthan’s colorful and mystical cities felt as if time had ceased to elapse.
